Glenwood Springs Hot Springs Hotels

Three separate operations put the hot springs in Glenwood Springs in a category of their own: a 405-foot pool, 35 riverside soaking pools, and America's only natural vapor caves. Here is which hotels actually get you into the water — and which just sleep you near it.

Glenwood Springs in 30 Seconds

  • Exactly one hotel includes the water: Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge bundles unlimited pool admission during business hours plus full breakfast into the room rate, per the resort's own pages.
  • The Grand Pool is the operator's claimed "world's largest hot springs pool" — the checkable figures are 405 feet by 100 feet, over a million gallons, held at 90–93°F / 32–34°C with a 104°F / 40°C therapy pool.
  • Hotel Colorado, the 1893 landmark across the street, sells a Splash & Crash package: one all-day pool pass per registered guest per night — passes come with the package, not every room.
  • Day passes run $38–51 per adult in winter and $51–55 in summer at the Glenwood Pool; Iron Mountain sells tiers at $43–75 (all ages) and $75–135 (21+ WorldSprings side), with online bookings $5 cheaper.
  • Iron Mountain Hot Springs now counts 35 pools after its 2026 Sauna Summit opening; its WorldSprings wing and saunas are strictly 21+ — the quieter, adults-leaning alternative to the big pool.
  • You can do this trip car-free: Amtrak's California Zephyr stops downtown daily, and a pedestrian bridge connects the station side of the river to the pool.
  • Yampah Spa's vapor caves — 110–113°F / 43–45°C natural steam chambers in continuous operation since 1893 — are 13+ only and not recommended during pregnancy, per the spa's own site.

Hotel data and prices checked August 2026. Nightly rates are a snapshot for 10–13 November 2026, two adults.

Glenwood Springs by the Numbers

Only figures the operators or public records publish — with the caveat that the pool's own website blocks automated readers, so its numbers come from its Google-indexed pages and third-party corroboration.

Grand Pool size

405 × 100 ft

Over a million gallons; the "world's largest hot springs pool" line is the operator's marketing claim.

Pool temperatures

90–93°F / 104°F / 40°C

Grand Pool and therapy pool, per 2026 third-party guides of the resort's own figures.

Adult day pass

$38–55

$38–51 winter, $51–55 summer, as of August 2026 per hanginglake.com's published table.

Iron Mountain pools

35

16 original mineral pools plus the 12-pool WorldSprings wing (2023) and Sauna Summit (2026), per ironmountainhotsprings.com.

Vapor cave temperature

110–113°F / 43–45°C

Yampah Spa's own site; in continuous operation since 1893.

Source water temperature

122°F / 50°C or 125°F / 52°C

Third-party guides say 122°F / 50°C for the Yampah spring feeding the pool; Yampah Spa's own site says its cave source flows at 125°F / 52°C. The contradiction stands.

Three Springs, One Small Town

Glenwood Springs is unusual among Colorado spring towns in that it runs three genuinely separate hot-springs operations, each with its own gate and its own price. The oldest is the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, open since 1888, whose Grand Pool measures 405 feet by 100 feet and holds more than a million gallons of mineral water at 90–93°F / 32–34°C, with a smaller therapy pool held at 104°F / 40°C. The operator markets it as the world's largest hot springs pool; no independent adjudication of that claim turned up in our research, so treat the dimensions as the fact and the superlative as marketing.

Iron Mountain Hot Springs, on the Colorado River bank a short way west, is the modern counterpoint: 16 geothermal mineral pools running 89–108°F / 32–42°C, a family zone, and — since 2023 — the WorldSprings expansion of 12 globally inspired pools, capped in 2026 by the Sauna Summit with five saunas and three cold plunge pools. Its own site now advertises 35 pools total, a marketing count that doesn't reconcile cleanly with the component numbers on its pool pages; we report both.

The third operation is the strangest: Yampah Spa & Vapor Caves, underground steam chambers at 110–113°F / 43–45°C that its owners bill as the only natural vapor cave in North America. The caves opened to the public in 1893 and have run continuously since; the Ute people used them for centuries before that and regarded them as a sacred place for ceremony and healing, per the spa's own history page. It is not a soak — you sit in hot mineral steam — and it is adults-and-teens territory, 13 and up.

All three draw on the same general Yampah spring system, and the sources disagree about how hot it runs: guides on the pool side quote 122°F / 50°C at the spring, while Yampah Spa's own site says its cave source delivers 6,000 gallons a minute at 125°F / 52°C. Those may be different measurement points of one system; neither operator reconciles them, so neither do we.

Day Passes and What They Cost

Unless you sleep at the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge, you are buying admission, so the pass math belongs in the hotel decision. At the Glenwood Pool, adult admission runs $38–51 per person in winter and $51–55 in summer, with youth (listed as ages 3–12 by third-party 2026 guides) at $27–33 winter and $33–34 summer. Those figures come from hanginglake.com's published table, because the pool's own site blocks automated readers; verify against the live rates page before budgeting to the dollar.

Iron Mountain prices by tier rather than season: Select Access, the all-ages side, runs $43–75, and Premier Access — which unlocks the 21+ WorldSprings pools, Sauna Summit and Sandbar Café — runs $75–135. Both are sold as a Quick Dip (up to 3 hours) or a full Day Pass with re-entry, and booking online saves $5 per person over walk-in rates, per its pricing page. No separate child price is published; whether kids pay the Select rate is one of the things the operator leaves unsaid.

Yampah Spa publishes no standalone cave price on the pages we could read — cave access is complimentary with any spa service, and everything else sits behind the booking flow. Search results attribute a $25 weekday / $30 weekend two-hour session to it, but that figure is unverified against any official price list; confirm by phone before you count on it.

  • Glenwood Pool adult: $38–51 winter, $51–55 summer (as of August 2026, via indexed pages)
  • Glenwood Pool youth: $27–33 winter, $33–34 summer; age band 3–12 per third-party guides
  • Iron Mountain Select (all ages): $43–75 · Premier (21+): $75–135 · online $5 less
  • Yampah vapor caves: complimentary with any spa service; standalone price not published

Arriving by Train, Staying Without a Car

Glenwood Springs is one of the few American hot-springs towns you can do entirely without a car. Amtrak's California Zephyr stops downtown daily — Wikipedia calls it the second-busiest station in Colorado after Denver Union Station — and the ride from Denver takes about five and a half hours, most of it through Glenwood Canyon, which the interstate shares but the train shows better. From the platform, a pedestrian bridge crosses the river straight to the hot springs pool campus.

That geography sorts the hotels neatly. The Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge and Hotel Colorado are a few minutes' walk from the station over the bridge; the Hotel Maxwell Anderson — the 1915 property longtime visitors know as the Hotel Denver, rebranded, with thehoteldenver.com now redirecting to the new name — stands directly across the street from the platform and sells its own pool-pass package. Silver Spruce Inn keeps you on the walkable grid at motel prices.

Flying is the weaker option: Eagle County (EGE) is about 34 minutes away, Aspen similar, Grand Junction 90 miles west, and Denver a 3–3.5 hour drive. If your trip is the springs and the town, the train beats them all and spares you a rental. Only the drive-tier stays — Glenwood Canyon Resort with its free shuttle partly excepted — really assume a car.

Kids, Adults-Only, and Who Can Soak Where

The three operations split cleanly by age. The Glenwood Pool is the family one: the Sopris Splash Zone adds the Shoshone Chutes tube ride, a splash pad and a dedicated children's area, and nothing on the property is adults-only. If the trip includes kids under 13, this is effectively the default — and Hotel Glenwood Springs, with its own indoor water park, is the bad-weather insurance policy.

Iron Mountain draws harder lines. Children under 5 may not use the geothermal pools at all — they are confined to the Family Zone — and nobody under 21 may enter the WorldSprings pools, the Sauna Summit or the Sandbar Café, which sit behind the Premier Access tier with ID checked. Read it the other way and Iron Mountain's premium side is the closest thing Glenwood has to an adults-only spring.

Yampah's vapor caves require guests to be 13 or older, with anyone under 18 accompanied by an adult, and the spa states plainly that the caves are not recommended at any stage of pregnancy due to the heat and steam. Hotel-wise, none of this changes the beds — every property on this page takes all ages — it changes which gate you'll queue at.

When to Go, and the Case for Winter

Winter is the honest answer. The Glenwood Pool's own pricing makes the argument: adult admission drops to $38–51 against summer's $51–55, and a 90–93°F / 32–34°C pool with steam rising into cold canyon air is the version of this town people photograph. The town sits at 5,761 feet, so winter is real — snow, cold nights — but the water temperature doesn't move, and the therapy pool holds 104°F / 40°C year-round.

Summer buys longer days, canyon rafting and the adventure park, at the top of the price card and the crowd curve. Shoulder months split the difference. One planning note regardless of season: Iron Mountain's online booking runs $5 per person under walk-in and its Premier tier ranges $75–135 by date and length, so the same soak can cost meaningfully different amounts a day apart. Book the springs before you book the room, then pick the hotel that matches the gate you chose.

How This Page Was Put Together

Hotel ratings, review counts and nightly rates come from Google's hotel data, captured August 2026 for a 10–13 November 2026 stay, two adults. Springs facts come from the operators' own published pages — ironmountainhotsprings.com and yampahvaporcaves.com read normally, but hotspringspool.com returns a 403 to automated readers, so every Glenwood Pool figure here (dimensions, temperatures, admission, the Lodge's inclusion) is sourced from Google-indexed snippets of its own pages corroborated by third parties, chiefly hanginglake.com and the Maxwell Anderson's package page. Verify exact dollar figures against the live site before you build a budget on them.

Known gaps, kept as gaps: Hotel 1888's pool-inclusion terms are unpublished to us; the Glenwood Pool youth age band is third-party; Yampah's standalone cave price is a search-result figure; Iron Mountain publishes no child rate; and the 122°F / 50°C versus 125°F / 52°C source-temperature contradiction between the pool-side guides and Yampah Spa's own site remains unresolved. Where an operator's marketing number and its component numbers disagree — Iron Mountain's 35-pool count — we print both. Nothing here is a review; we haven't scored these hotels, we've reported what their operators and their guests' review topics say.

Glenwood Springs Hot Springs Hotels: Questions

Which hotel in Glenwood Springs includes hot springs admission?
Only one as a standard room inclusion: Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge, whose rate covers unlimited pool access during business hours plus full breakfast, per the resort's own pages. Hotel Colorado, Hotel Glenwood Springs and the Hotel Maxwell Anderson all sell pass-bundled packages instead — the passes come only if you book the package.
Is the big Glenwood pool worth it compared with Iron Mountain?
They solve different problems. The Grand Pool is a 405-foot, 90–93°F / 32–34°C swimming experience with a kids' splash zone — better for families and lap-length soaking. Iron Mountain is hotter (pools to 108°F / 42°C), smaller-scale and quieter, with a 21+ WorldSprings and sauna wing that the big pool has no answer to. Many visitors do one of each; adults-only trips lean Iron Mountain.
Can kids go in the hot springs in Glenwood Springs?
At the Glenwood Pool, yes — the Sopris Splash Zone is built for them. At Iron Mountain, children under 5 are restricted to the Family Zone and nobody under 21 enters the WorldSprings pools or Sauna Summit. The Yampah vapor caves are 13+ only, with under-18s accompanied by an adult.
Do you need a car in Glenwood Springs?
No — it may be the easiest car-free hot-springs trip in the country. Amtrak's California Zephyr stops downtown daily (about 5.5 hours from Denver), and a pedestrian bridge connects the station side to the pool. Stay at the Lodge, Hotel Colorado or Silver Spruce Inn and everything is on foot; only the budget corridor and canyon cabins assume driving.
Can you soak in winter?
Yes, and it is the cheaper season: adult admission at the Glenwood Pool drops to $38–51 versus $51–55 in summer, per its indexed 2026 rate table. The Grand Pool holds 90–93°F / 32–34°C and the therapy pool 104°F / 40°C regardless of the weather, and the town's 5,761-foot elevation means proper steam off the water on cold days.
What happened to the Hotel Denver?
It rebranded. The 1915 hotel across from the Amtrak station now operates as the Hotel Maxwell Anderson — thehoteldenver.com redirects there — and it still sells a Hot Springs Pool package with a discounted room and two single-day passes. It isn't in our rate comparison, but the walk-to-everything location logic that made it popular is unchanged.
How hot is the water at the source?
The sources disagree. Guides covering the pool quote the Yampah spring at 122°F / 50°C, while Yampah Spa's own site says its cave source flows at 125°F / 52°C and 6,000 gallons a minute. These may be different measurement points of the same spring system; in the pools themselves you'll meet 90–104°F / 32–40°C at Glenwood and 89–108°F / 32–42°C at Iron Mountain.
